The Glasgow School of Art (GSA) has become the latest member to join the Scottish Arts and Humanities Alliance (SAHA).

The GSA has become the 18th member of the Alliance, joining academic institutions from across Scotland, including the Royal Society of Edinburgh and the Scottish Graduate School for Arts and Humanities.

Since its establishment in 2019, SAHA has provided a strong and unifying voice to Scotland’s arts and humanities and promoted the value they bring to the nation’s society, culture, and economy. The addition of the GSA, the second Small Specialist Institution (SSI) to join the Alliance after the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, allows that voice to grow in strength across the sector.

Professor Penny Macbeth, Director of The Glasgow School of Art said:

“We are delighted to join the SAHA Alliance and stand alongside Scotland's leading academic institutions in championing the arts and humanities. At The Glasgow School of Art, we believe in the transformative power of creative education, and this partnership will allow us to further amplify the vital role that creative education can play in enriching our society, culture, and economy. By uniting with our peers, we can ensure that the voice of Scotland’s creative sector is stronger and more impactful than ever.”

Professor Catherine O’Leary (University of St Andrews) and Professor Murray Pittock MAE FRSE (University of Glasgow), co-chairs of SAHA, welcomed GSA as its newest member.

Professor Catherine O’Leary said:

“We are delighted that GSA has joined the Alliance, thus strengthening our mission to provide a single unified voice to promote Scotland’s arts and humanities nationally and internationally.

“SSIs are an integral and distinctive part of the Scottish Higher Education landscape; they represent a crucial piece of the large tapestry of diverse and world-renowned institutions, which year after year play a central role in our society and individual lives by shaping our culture and economy. We look forward to collaborating with our newest member and further promoting the value the sector adds and how arts and humanities are to be embraced, promoted, and nurtured for the benefit of us all.”
